Imaging & Conversion: Microfilm & Microfiche
3SG has staff dedicated to scanning and converting microfiche and microfilm using specialized, high volume scanners. 3SG sets the pace with capacity of 400,000 microfiche and 500,000 microfilm images daily, in addition to paper imaging.
3SG provides indexing services to link the images to a database. Indexing may be done a number of ways, such as per image, per card, or per roll.
Security of your microfiche and microfilm is of utmost importance during the entire project. The 3SG microfiche and microfilm area is a key-card only access area with secure storage for client materials.
Looking back do you know how microfilm got its start?
During the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71, the government in Tours communicated with Paris using pigeons carrying paper communication.
This did not work out very well, so the government began using microphotography specialists to photograph paper dispatches and place them on microfilm.
Homing pigeons then carried the microfilm to Paris where the images were projected by lantern so they could be copied onto paper.
